Jotta ei vaikuttaisi siltä, että pelkästään luuhaan kaupoissa, esittelen vastavalmistuneen kesähameeni. Ompelin kymmenen richelieu-tyylistä leikekirjontaliinaa käsin yhteen, taakse (koneella) vetoketjun ja vyötärökaitaleen. Tälläiset harmaalla tai pellavanvärillä vaalealle kankaalle leikekirjotut liinat ovat jostain ihmeen syystä todella halpoja kirpputoreilla ja vanhojen tavaroiden kaupoissa, minusta ne ovat upeita ja lisäksi aikaavieden tehtyjä. Mutta tämäntyypinen käsityö ei kai ole nyt muodissa. Hameen liinat maksoivat 50 sentistä 4 euroon.
Olen hamstrannut tämäntapaisia liinasia pinoittain, aikomuksena leikellä ja ommella niistä mekko, mutta en sittenkään raaskinut saksia aivan ehjiä vanhoja liinoja. Hameeseen ne saattoi käyttää kokonaisina.
Just so it does not appear I'm ONLY wasting my time in shops, I present this skirt I've made for summer. It's made of 10 handmade cutwork tablecloths (richelieu style), which for some reason can be found very cheaply at flea markets & secondhand shops. I can't for the life of me figure out why those cloths cost so little (from 4 euros to 50 cents per piece), I think they are very beautiful and needed lots of time and patience from the needleworker. But I guess they are not fashionable right now.
I've been stocking this type of tablecloths, planning to cut and sew them into a dress, but after all I don't have the heart to put scissors on perfectly fine old textiles. So this skirt was a way to use them without cutting them.
