Helsinki University Museum has an exhibition of underwear from mid-19th century to 1960's. On display are night dresses, long frilly underpants, corsets and so on, very interesting for the lace enthusiast.

Ihanaa reikäkirjontaa liivinsuojuksessa - pretty broderie anglaise work on a corset cover.
Käsinkirjottua koritelua ja yläreunassa käpyilty pitsi - handmade embroidery and tatted lace on a nightdress
That tatting in the bottom photo is lovely! It's proof positive that simple tatting can have a lovely effect on things!
VastaaPoistaFantastic! I have some French convent nighties (which I wear) - I love things like this.
VastaaPoistaTattingChic, I love too that delicate look of simple tatted edging!
VastaaPoistaFloss, isn't it mysterious (and wonderful) how beautifully these garments are made even though almost no-one was supposed to see them back then when they were made. For example that corset cover is so pretty and yet hidden.
